Chapter 5 / 22
Profile, preferences and accessibility modes
Your profile
Open avatar menu › Profile. The profile page shows your name, picture, institution, the courses you are enrolled in, your badges and links to reports, privacy settings and login activity. Teachers and classmates in your courses see a part of it (name, picture, description; the e-mail address only if you allow it).
Editing your profile
- On the profile page click Edit profile.
- Check your First name, Last name and Email address. Under Email visibility choose who can see your e-mail address – for privacy we recommend Visible to course participants or Hidden.
- Optionally write a short Description about yourself (study programme, interests, languages you speak) – it helps in international teams.
- Under User picture drag a photo into the New picture box, or click it and upload a file (JPG or PNG, square format works best). Fill in the Picture description – it is read by screen readers.
- Check the field Institution. If it is wrong, contact the support – it determines your institution group.
- Click Update profile.
Tip: A real photo and a short description make team work much easier, especially when team members from Sofia, Olomouc and Niš meet only online.
Preferences
All personal settings are collected under avatar menu › Preferences. The most important ones:
| Setting | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Edit profile | Name, e-mail, picture, description (see above). |
| Change password | Enter the current password and the new one twice. |
| Preferred language | The language of the interface and of the e-mail notifications. |
| Forum preferences | E-mail digest type (single e-mails, complete digest once a day or subjects only), automatic subscription to discussions you post in, tracking of unread posts. |
| Editor preferences | The text editor used in forms (default TinyMCE). |
| Calendar preferences | Time format (12/24 h), first day of the week, how many upcoming events are shown. |
| Message preferences | Who may send you private messages, "Use enter to send" (chapter 6). |
| Notification preferences | Which notifications you receive in the browser, by e-mail or in the mobile app (chapter 6). |
| Accessibility and display | The four display modes described below. |
Accessibility and display modes
CloudLearnHub has four display modes that you can switch on for your account. They can be combined freely, are saved in your account and therefore apply on every computer and phone where you log in. They work without JavaScript.
| Mode | What it does | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| High contrast | Black background, white text, yellow links (a forced colour scheme). | Low vision, bright sunlight, tired eyes. |
| Large text | Increases all text by 25 %. | Low vision, small or high-resolution screens. |
| Readable font | Wider letter spacing and a font that is easier to read for people with dyslexia. | Dyslexia, reading long texts. |
| Reduced motion | Disables animations and transitions. | Sensitivity to motion, concentration, slow computers. |
How to switch a mode on
- Open avatar menu › Accessibility and display (or Preferences › Accessibility and display, or directly the page Accessibility and display).
- Tick one or more modes.
- Click Save changes. The message Your display settings have been saved. appears and the change is visible immediately.
- To switch a mode off, untick it and save again.
Tip: Browser zoom (Ctrl and + / Ctrl and −, on a Mac Cmd and + / −) works on every page as well and can be combined with Large text. The layout adapts up to 400 % zoom without horizontal scrolling.
Other accessibility features
- Every page can be used with the keyboard only; the focused element has a strong visible outline and click targets are large.
- The platform works with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack). Headings, landmarks and form labels are structured for them.
- Teachers are asked to provide alternative text for images, captions for videos and a clear heading structure in their materials.
- The public Accessibility statement describes the level of accessibility (target WCAG 2.2 AA) and known limitations.
Reporting an accessibility barrier
If you cannot use a part of the platform or a learning material, use the footer link Report an accessibility barrier. Say which page it is, what happened and which assistive technology you use (for example screen reader, magnifier, voice control). The team answers within 10 working days. For a barrier in a specific course material you can also write to the teacher, who can provide an alternative format.
Note: If you need individual adjustments because of a disability (for example more time in quizzes), contact the disability or student support office of your university and your teacher. Teachers can grant individual time extensions for quizzes and assignments.
